The Storm Beneath my Skin
Mixed media on wood
30" x 24” | 76 cm x 61 cm
There’s a pulse, the kind that races just beneath the surface when excitement can no longer be contained. It’s the spark before release, the insistence of joy demanding expression. It is The Storm Beneath My Skin.
Humming with restless energy, the colors twist and collide, and layers shift like a sudden wind sweeping through.
It’s like a storm, but not of destruction—it’s a storm of something alive and urgent pushing to break free.
Even in its chaos, there is a feeling of lightness; this turbulence lifts rather than weighs down.
Sometimes the storm inside isn’t meant to be calmed—it’s meant to be set free.
Artist Reflection:
This piece sits in a space between what was and what was about to emerge. Like A Quiet Kind of Joy, I think I stopped painting too soon—afraid to lose the details I loved. Together, these two pieces feel like an isolated in-between phase.
They followed the structured freedom of 2024, when I was still holding onto a quiet formula without realizing it. I had begun to loosen my grip, but I hadn’t yet learned to trust the process fully. This painting was created during a time when uncertainty had crept into both my life and my studio, and I can see that hesitation in its layers.
If I created it today, it would look very different. But that’s what makes it meaningful—it carries the weight of that transition, a reminder that sometimes you have to move through fear to find real freedom and joy.
We never get to meet our authentic selves. From the moment we are born, the world starts to imprint itself upon us, wrapping our inner core in the layers of life’s journey.
With these abstract paintings, I want to give you a place to contemplate that genuine, untouched inner core that's tucked away in all of us. Take a moment, soak in the colors and textures, let your mind drift and peel back those layers — sneak a peek behind the veil.
Art is about what it does to You, how does it make You feel? Which colors and textures strike a chord with your soul?
WHAT MATERIALS ARE USED TO CREATE THIS ARTWORK?
This mixed-media painting on wood is created using a combination of acrylic paints and a variety of fine art materials.
IS THE ARTWORK SIGNED?
Yes, all original artworks are signed on the front in the lower right corner. They also have their title, date, artist name and a signed certificate of authenticity on the back.
IS THIS PAINTING READY TO HANG?
Yes, all paintings on wood panel and canvas are all ready to hang, most have a wire on the back or, for larger pieces a set of eyelets or a French cleat that enables flush mounting (flush mounting is highly recommended for pieces larger than 48”x36”). My paintings show beautifully with or without a frame. If you prefer I can arrange framing for you, fill out the form below for a quote. Because framing adds weight and volume during shipping you may prefer to have your local framer do the work.

That is why the Artist Abroad is always happy to offer a payment plan that fits your situation. When full payment has been made the artwork will be delivered to you.
