Storyscapes: a narrative of urban community

Visual artist Denise Buisman Pilger exhibits at The Old Mission Brewery and Viva Vida Art Gallery

Montréal, November 9, 2016. Montréal based Dutch artist Denise Buisman Pilger, will present her unique view of the familiar urban landscape in not one, but two, solo exhibitions in the greater Montréal area this November. From -November 23 - January 11, 2017 her work will bring colour and joy to the people visiting the newly renovated cafeteria of the men’s pavilion of the Mission Old Brewery. (Vernissage Thursday November 24 1:30-3:00 PM.) From November 25 – December 9th she will present her most recent works at Viva Vida Art Gallery in Pointe Claire (vernissage on Friday, November 25, 7pm – 10pm.) Both exhibitions are curated by gallery director/curator Nedia El Khouri.

The Mission Old Brewery recently renovated and reopened the cafeteria of the men’s pavilion, creating Galerie Carlos, a beautiful space where rotating exhibitions will give their clients a chance to enjoy art they wouldn’t normally have access to. “We have selected works specifically to open opportunities to explore urban stories of the near and far, Montreal and abroad.”

Working together since 2010 “Storyscpaes” will be Buisman Pilger’s fourth solo exhibition at Viva Vida Art Gallery. As a frequent traveler, Denise Buisman Pilger, continues to be inspired by the urban landscape and the people that -populate it. “I love to observe city life, all the cars and people rushing by, I always like to imagine where all those people are going and what their lives are like.” In her work Denise captures those moments, giving us a chance to ponder and make up stories of our own.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Buisman Pilger has a Bachelors Degree in Illustration from the Willem de Kooning -Academy of Arts in Rotterdam. She has proudly exhibited her work at the 2011 Salon de la Société Nationale des -Beaux-Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, the Artist Project and the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Her work can be found in -galleries in Montréal, Ottawa and Toronto.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to share my work with such a diverse audience. I hope everyone will join us at the vernissages to explore colourful landmarks and story filled cityscapes at Galerie Carlos and Viva Vida Art Gallery”.
