FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DISCOVER MONTRÉAL THROUGH THE EYES OF AN OUTSIDER.

Dutch artist Denise Buisman Pilger exhibits Montréal cityscapes and launches her new book at Viva Vida Art Gallery.

Montréal, September 12, 2013. Montréal based Dutch artist, Denise Buisman Pilger will exhibit her most recent series; Discoveries: Montréal, in a 2 week solo show at Viva Vida Art Gallery (278-2 Lakeshore Road, Pointe-Claire.) An art book of the series will be launched at the same time. Both exhibition and book feature a series of surreal photomontages inspired by the unique and picturesque boroughs and villages that make up the Island of Montréal. The show runs from October 25 to November 7, with a vernissage on Friday, October 25, 7pm – 10pm.

Having moved to the city in 2009, Denise immediately set about discovering her new home town, camera in hand. Over a period of two years from 2011 to 2013, she took the time to visit and photograph each of Montréal ‘s 34 boroughs. Driving, biking and walking, her mission was to capture the iconic and quirky details that give each borough its distinct character in a tapestry of villages that make up the Island’s rich landscape.

After successfully running an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign earlier this year, the artist raised enough funds to -transform the series into an art book, which will be launched at the show. “The pieces of the series can be enjoyed on their own but they are most powerful as a whole, the book is the way to keep the series together,” the artist explains.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Denise has a Bachelors Degree in Illustration from the Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in -Rotterdam. Exhibiting and selling her work prolifically in North America and Europe over the past several years, she has proudly exhibited her work at the 2011 Salon de la Société nationale des beaux-arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, and at Ward-Nasse Gallery in Soho, New York City.

Having worked on this project in her studio for more then two years, the artist is looking forward to finally sharing it with the world. Because the pieces will be sold separately, this show offers a unique opportunity to see the originals together as a series. The public is invited to discover the boroughs of Montréal through the eyes of an outsider at Viva Vida Art Gallery, where a city is waiting to be explored.
