Artist Statement - Unveiling

My abstract mixed media paintings are a celebration of creative freedom, joy, and the strength it takes to be fully yourself. In a world where our lives often feel like a constant performance, maintaining a true sense of self is a challenge. The pressures of societal expectations, amplified by the daily deluge of social media, make it all too easy to lose sight of who we are.

After years of creating within the boundaries of expectation—trained to illustrate other people’s stories—I’ve reclaimed my own. Unveiling is the result of that transformation: a body of work born from letting go of control, silencing the inner critic, and learning to follow where the art wants to go.

Each painting begins with no plan, just a feeling—a pull toward color, texture, and possibility. As I layer acrylics, washi paper, oil pastels, sand, and alcohol, the work evolves through spontaneity and trust. Every piece becomes a journey through my inner landscape, shaped by the resilience of expat life, the weight of reinvention, and now, the exuberance of creative release.

Where my earlier work explored memory and identity through cityscapes and structure, Unveiling moves inward. It’s fluid, luminous, and unapologetically expressive. These paintings reflect my shift from performance to presence, from control to curiosity, from restraint to pure joy.

In the studio, I no longer strive for perfection. Drawing from over a decade and a half of experience, I follow the marks, let the work speak, and trust the process. My art invites others to do the same—to explore what lies beneath the layers, to reconnect with their own intuitive voice, and to feel the power of creating without apology.

Unveiling is a reminder that we are allowed to change. That joy is a worthy compass. And that the most beautiful work often begins with not knowing where you’re going—just the courage to begin.
